Hokanson Dix Glass - Trefny Dix

Trefny Dix graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 1993 with a B.F.A. in sculpture. Her Mixed media sculptures, incorporating cast and blown glass with steel, plaster, metal screen and natural fibers, represent figural forms and their fantastical accessories.

Over the last several years, my work has focused on transforming functional, domestic objects such as combs, purses and quilts into to objects that are personifications of these objects' users or the materials used to construct the forms. My work combines blown and cast glass with materials such as metal, steel wool, natural fibers, fur, and wood.

The materials are welded, wrapped, sewn, and bonded together creating layers and volumes, The combination of materials are often plays on the impressions we have about the objects themselves. For example: a purse constructed from steel, nails and steel wool has all the necessary elements for it to be strong, soft and private. The forms are often hollow, as if they are holding chambers.
